What you will learn |
|

Note: A "module" is a group of activities
designed to meet a specific training objective.
Typically, a module includes an instructor preview,
workbook activity, practice, a skill check, and
personalized feedback from the instructor. |
|

Expert OJT Session |

Module 3: Build a Task
List |
Build
a "training curriculum" of all the tasks, skills and
knowledge a person needs to learn in order to do a
particular job. We call it a "M.A.P." -- Master Activity
Plan. If you already have a curriculum, the M.A.P. will help
to optimize your training activities. The Master Activity
Plan becomes your training roadmap.
Learn the 4-steps to building a total training
roadmap:
-
How to write a task list.
-
How to identify the
critical skills and knowledge for each task.
-
How to sequence the tasks
for optimal learning.
-
How to put all of the
training activities (not just OJT activities, but
classroom, computer-based, etc.) into an optimal
learning sequence.
|
|
Learn how to: |
-
Track job aid development,
trainee-training status, and cross training.
-
Make work assignments, find
training opportunities, track "hidden" training, and
keep a training log.
-
Build a training baseline –
get a "snapshot" of who is already qualified to do the
job.
-
Plan the optimum mix of
STRUCTURED OJT, e-learning, classroom and other training
activities.
-
Manage and track the entire
OJT process.
-
Identify trainee-training
status in 20 seconds.
-
Integrate training
“naturally” into work processes so that knowledge and
skill sharing becomes part of the job.
|
|
Module 4: Write
S.M.A.R.T. Job Aids |
|
Capture procedures and best practices in job aids that
anyone can refer to when doing a task.
-
"Job aids" are procedures
that people use when
actually doing a task.
-
Job aids let people take
the training with them to the job.
-
If you already have job
aids, we can show you how to write them faster and
better.
-
You don’t need to be a
technical writer. You only need to know your job.
-
The S.M.A.R.T. Job Aid™
format will work for any type of procedure.
-
The KEY information that
MUST be in each job aid you write.
-
The information that must
NEVER be in a job aid.
-
WHEN and when NOT to use
job aids.
-
How to make job aids
"user-friendly."
-
How to package and place
job aids for maximum effectiveness.
-
How to test and revise a
job aid.
-
How to do task detailing AS
you write a job aid. That way, you have an output you
can use immediately (a job aid).
-
How and when to use images
in your job aids.
-
How to make job aids
visual.
-
How to set the standards
for a procedure.
|
You will learn how to:
-
Evaluate a job aid.
-
Try out a job aid on
another person.
-
Field the job aid.
-
Decide how to package the
job aid and where to place it in the work environment.
-
Identify key work
environment, motivation, and training issues they could
affect job aids in your organization.
|
|
Module 5: Prepare
Training |
-
Save time and money by
deciding IF any training
is needed to go along with a job aid.
-
If training is needed, turn
job aids into powerful training tools with training
notes.
-
Optimize your training time
by planning the materials, training area, trainers, and
trainees.
-
Flawlessly train each task
by using proven training strategies.
|
|
After the Workshop |
- Get coaching from your instructor as you actually
test the materials you developed during the workshop.
-
After you try out your
materials, complete a simple evaluation checklist and
return it to Expert OJT™ to earn a Certificate of
Competence.
-
An Expert OJT™ associate
will provide up to 1 year of additional coaching, if
needed, at no additional charge.
